Sullivans Cove French Oak Cask

Sullivans Cove French Oak Cask

Best Australian Single Malt 2015

Jasmine, frangipane, tropical flowers on the nose. Lanolin, polished gym floors, pencil shavings without the lead part, floral scented erasers on paper. Balanced oak and musk, good body, lovely.

At first I thought this might be an Armagnac from its grape-like nose, which is very inviting. The palate offers the same as the nose, lovely grape, damson and fig with the finish of sweet honey biscuit.

Raspberry jam and earth. Dried fig, sultana, pomegranate and grainy, dusty spice. Sweet barley emerges along with a touch of pepper, chocolate and tea leaves. Oily red fruit, figs and pomegranate. Lovely balance with hints of barley, herbs and grainy oak. Long and extremely juicy finish. The French oak like tannins come through with a lovely chocolaty character.

Tunnock’s Caramel wafers. With a touch of smoke. Excellent balance. Ed Bates

Toasted almonds, grated nutmeg and some fruit toast on the nose. Burnt almonds, autumn fruits stewed with golden raisins. Light, peppery and intriguing. Seáneen Sullivan

Keeping it simple in a very good way. Honey, vanilla and haystacks. All combine with apples and caramel. Jason Thomson

Campfire smoke that enriches the malt and wood. A match made in heaven with a smooth buttery feel. Joseph Cassidy

Great balance, lovely spices come through with time. Jamie Milne
