World's Best Blended Whisky 2016
A big, bold and beautiful nose of oily Guyana rum-like notes. Lightly raisinated fruit and spice drift above some lusciously creamy oak. Lovely maturity to the aromas, and very much like an old grain whisky. Superb depth with a refreshing citrus twist. The palate is quite tannic to begin with as the oak really grips. There is a depth of lightly oiled dried fruit with hints of spice, liquorice and light treacle, but there’s no escaping the oaks grip. Very long and gently grainy. To sum up, a stunning nose. Very old grain like, which I love. The oak really grips the palate, but it has a lovely finish.
Herbal with a dry, twiggy, nuttiness though there’s some sweetness behind which emerges in time. Sensual and weighty with stewed fruit, black butter and a touch of sandalwood. Quite a fat nose with dried flower, violet. Ripe, rich and balanced.
Beautifully honeyed and biscuity with dusty oak, malt, citrus and syrup. Gentle and mature palate, oak mingles with citrus infused honey. Oiled, matured, dried fruit and grain appears along with some gentle spices. Stunning stuff. Chris Goodrum
Pleasant maple syrup and wet wood nose. Firm, dry palate with some caramel and digestive biscuit notes. Rich, lingering finish with growing cinnamon heat. Good mature flavours. Jim Anderson
Brown sugar and hints of chocolate on the nose with a promise of character. Sweetness, brown sugar, milk and lovely spice. Cat Spencer
Mature nose with citrus, honey and toffee. Quite sweet but excellent balance, the palate is rich and syrupy. Ludo Ducrocq
A bag of Starburst with a couple of toffee sweets thrown in. Sweeter on the palate with orange and custard creams. Michael Lord
