Best South African Blended Whisky 2016
Opens with manuka honey and herbs on the nose. Hints of barley and nutty, coconut milk oak follow. Very creamy and smooth with hints of lychee, banana and a little herbal spirit at the edge. Soft and smooth palate with apricot and blanched almonds. Lightly creamy with coconut and unsweetened pineapple. The oak becomes a little bitter.
Long and intense finish. Lovely bittersweet balance. Another finely balanced blend.
Some light sherry, raisins, vanilla, ripe oranges and apples, then some blond tobacco and a little honey. Impeccable, although probably quite young. The palate is very spicy, probably from a pretty active cask.
White pepper, ginger and cinnamon, then more juicy sultanas and oranges. Long and spicy finish. Gingerbread and cinnamon mints. Quite excellent with lots of spice and oak.
Exotic, herbal, some sap wood. Fruity finish with some unripe mango. Bernhard Schafer
Sweet, oaky vanilla. Watermelon. Pear, citrus and some slight smoke. Fred Minnick
Sweet and chewy with exotic woods and strange fruits. Very, very tasty indeed. Davin de Kergommeaux
